New this year, the CZ DRAKE 12 GAUGE 28″ BARREL 2+1 06092 is a bare-bones hunting O/U gun, available in 12 and 20 gauge with 28-inch barrels. The 20 gauge I shot weighs 6 pounds, 9 ounces, with a forward weight balance that makes sure it swings and points.

The gun is pretty basic: one mechanical trigger, manual safety, extractors, not ejectors, no side ribs on the barrels—either to save weight, money, or both—and a basic thin black rubber pad. His lone collar is a white Bradley-style bead on the rib.

It’s also simple in appearance. The walnut has a satin finish and very straight grain, with machine-cut rifling. The metal is matte black with some superficial scrolling on the receiver and that’s about all the Drake has.
But it feels good when you swing it at the target, comes with a hard case and five chokes, and you get it all for $629, a bargain in O/U shotguns. If I didn’t have too many guns already, I’d want this as a backup and one to shoot on rainy days and maybe nice days too come to think of it.
